SAMOA BUS TRACKERAIGA BUS · DEMONSTRATIONTUE 5:19 AM

About this demonstration

Samoa Bus Tracker · Aiga Bus pilot · prototype build

Everything you see is demonstration data

Village and landmark names are real places in Samoa. The bus routes, timetables, buses, drivers, delays, alerts and live positions are fictional and simulated. They do not describe Aiga Bus or any other operator's real services, and must not be used to plan a journey.

Two modes, one app

  • Mode A — timetable and manual updates. Buses marked Timetable show scheduled times only, plus any delay the operator has entered. Buses marked Operator update show the last stop the driver reported, with an estimate window that widens as the report ages.
  • Mode B — live GPS. Buses marked Live GPS show a position on the map and “arriving in approximately N minutes”. In this demo the GPS feed is simulated from the timetable unless a signed-in driver is sharing a real position from the driver app.

How arrival times are estimated

  1. A live GPS position, combined with the route and typical segment travel times.
  2. The most recent driver or operator stop report.
  3. The published timetable, adjusted by any operator-reported delay.
  4. Historical travel times (not yet collected in this prototype).

If the best available information is too old (more than 45 minutes) the app says Arrival time unavailable rather than showing a misleading live estimate.

Where the geography comes from

The island outlines are the electoral constituency shapes already used in another Samoa project, simplified to about 20 KB so the map works on slow connections with no map tiles to download. Village coordinates were placed by hand and are approximate (roughly within a kilometre or two). Before any live launch they must be verified with the Land Transport Authority, and real stops, routes and timetables collected from operators with their permission.

Designed for low-cost phones and slow data

  • Pages are rendered on the server; a typical page is well under 100 KB.
  • No external map tiles, fonts or trackers. The map is inline SVG.
  • The app can be installed to the home screen and keeps working offline for timetables and recently viewed pages.
  • Live information refreshes only while the screen is visible.

Try the other roles
